Privacy Policy
MixTale turns stories into songs. This policy explains what information we collect to do that, how we use it, who helps us, and the choices you have.
In short: you can listen without an account. If you create one, we keep your email, your name and what you make. What you publish is public; everything else stays private. To write lyrics and make songs and covers, we send what you write to AI providers. We use Google Analytics to see how the app is used, never for advertising. You can delete your account and everything in it from the app at any time.
Who we are
MixTale is made by Klipx Limited (“we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17221685). Our registered office is at 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom.
Klipx Limited is the controller of your personal information, as described here. You can reach us at help@klipx.app, or by post at our registered office.
What we collect
When you open the app
So you can listen, like stories and follow creators without signing up, the app creates an anonymous identifier for you through Google Firebase Authentication. It isn't linked to your name.
If you create an account
- Sign-in details: your email address and password, or the email address of the Google account you sign in with. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication, and we never see them.
- Profile: the username and display name you choose, and a profile picture if you add one.
- Credits: how many credits you have, and what you spent them on.
What you make
Your story briefs, genres, chapter titles and notes, lyrics (including your edits), music prompts, the songs and covers made from them, photos you upload as covers, and your stories' titles, loglines and whether they're published.
What you do in the app
Stories you like, creators you follow, stories you follow, people you block, and reports you send, including the reason and any note you add. When you like a story or follow a creator, they get a notification with your display name (or "Someone" if you listen without an account). People you've blocked never hear about you this way.
Playing a story follows it, so it's listed under the stories you follow, and you can turn that off from the story's page. If you turn a follow off, we keep a note that it's off, so playing the story again doesn't follow it again. When a story you follow gains chapters, we tell its followers who have an account. If you listen without an account, you follow stories the same way, but we have no way to tell you.
Notifications
If you have an account, each phone you're signed in on gets a notification token from Firebase Cloud Messaging, so we can tell you when your songs are ready, when someone likes one of your stories or follows you, and when a story you follow has new chapters. We also keep a list of these notifications for the app's Notifications page. A phone's token is removed when you sign out on it. You can turn notifications off, or turn off each kind, in your phone's settings.
Technical information
- Crash reports: if the app crashes or hits an error, Firebase Crashlytics sends us a report with your device model, operating system and app version, and the details of the error. These reports aren't linked to your name or email.
- Usage analytics: Google Analytics for Firebase records how the app is used: the screens you open, how long you use the app, and actions such as signing up, creating, publishing, playing (which story, and whether you heard it to the end), liking and following, and purchases. It uses an ID it gives this app on your phone, and works out a rough location, such as your region or town, from a masked IP address. If you have an account, your account ID is linked to these records. We don't collect your phone's advertising ID, and we don't use any of this for advertising.
- App integrity: Firebase App Check, using Google Play Integrity, checks that requests come from the real MixTale app on a genuine device. This protects the services that make songs and covers from abuse.
- Network information: like any online service, our providers handle your IP address to deliver the app.
Kept only on your phone
Your listening history (where you stopped in each story), stories you're in the middle of creating, and copies of songs and covers saved so they play and show without downloading again. These stay on your device and aren't sent to us, though Analytics (above) records which stories you play.
How we use it
- To run MixTale: writing lyrics, making songs and covers, playing stories, and showing published stories on Discover with their creator's name.
- To keep accounts secure, and to prevent abuse. This includes App Check, limits on how much one account can make, and handling reports.
- To review reported content and enforce our Community Guidelines.
- To fix crashes, and to understand how people use MixTale so we can improve it.
- To send account emails, such as confirming your address or resetting your password.
- To send notifications about your stories, your followers and the stories you follow, which you can turn off.
We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
AI providers and other services
MixTale uses other companies to do its work. They process information on our behalf:
- OpenAI: writes lyrics, suggests chapter titles and writes prompts for cover images. We send your brief, genre, chapter titles and notes, and any cover description you write. When you add chapters to a story, we also send its title and the lyrics of its last few chapters, so the new ones carry on from them. Before anything is made, OpenAI's moderation service also checks your brief, notes and lyrics against our Community Guidelines.
- Kie.ai (using Suno's music models), or our own music service: makes the songs. We send the lyrics and music prompts.
- Kie.ai (image models): makes AI covers. We send the cover prompt.
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud: accounts, database, file storage, server functions, notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging), crash reporting, usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) and App Check.
These providers may keep what we send them for a limited time under their own terms, for example to prevent abuse. Please don't put personal information about yourself or others in your stories.
What's public
When you publish a story, anyone using MixTale can see and hear it. That includes its title, logline, cover, chapter titles, lyrics and songs, and chapter notes if you choose to show them. It also includes your display name, username, profile picture and follower count. Unpublished stories, your briefs and your music prompts are never shown to anyone else. Reports are private: we never tell anyone who reported them.
Legal bases
If you're in the UK or the EU, we rely on these legal bases:
- Contract: to provide the service you asked for.
- Legitimate interests: to keep MixTale secure, prevent abuse, moderate content, fix problems and understand how the app is used.
- Consent: where the law requires it.
Where your information is stored
Your information is stored by Google Cloud in the United States. Transfers from the UK and EU are protected by Google's data processing terms, which include the Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum.
How long we keep it
- We keep account information, and what you make, until you delete it or your account.
- When you delete your account, we delete these straight away: your profile, stories, songs, covers, uploaded photos, likes, follows, story follows, blocks, the reports you sent, your notifications and your phones' notification tokens. Copies in backups are overwritten within 30 days.
- Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days, and Google Analytics records for up to 14 months.
- Reports other people made about published content may be kept as moderation records.
Your choices and rights
In the app, you can change your name and picture, unpublish or delete stories, and delete your account. Depending on where you live, you may also have these rights:
- To access your information, correct it, or get a copy of it.
- To ask us to delete it.
- To object to or restrict how we use it.
Email help@klipx.app to use any of these rights. In the UK, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In the EU, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
MixTale isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
Information is encrypted on its way between the app and our services, and access to it is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect what you trust us with.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If the changes are significant, we'll tell you in the app.
